Florian “Rae” Wilson
November 19, 1933~December 28, 2019
Gordon Robert (Bob) Moyes passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2019 at the age of 87. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 9, 1932 to Gordon Alexander Moyes and Wanda Abigail Pettey Moyes. Bob was raised in Salt Lake and graduated from South High School. Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of Utah where he joined the Navy ROTC. Bob graduated from the University of Utah in August 1955, received his Navy Commission and married his sweetheart, Florian Rae Wilson – all in one week.
Bob was a pilot in the US Navy and he loved every minute that he spent in the air. Following the Navy Bob worked in sales, drawing house plans and a few other things before he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration. If he couldn’t fly, then this was the next best thing.
Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in callings with the youth, on the High Council and as High Priest Group Leader. After retirement he served as a Temple Worker. Bob & Rae were called as service missionaries to the IMC Medical Center. Bob really enjoyed the time he spent visiting those who were in the hospital. He felt like any day he could make someone smile was a worthwhile day.
Florian Rae Wilson Moyes passed away peacefully at her home less than 12 hours after her Sweetheart on December 28, 2019 at the age of 86. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 19, 1933 to Edward Walter Wilson and Florian Jenkins Wilson. Rae was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington. Following her High School graduation, she moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University. Not having enough money to stay at school she moved back home and went to work in the music store in Lewiston, Idaho. One year later the store was sold and the new owners didn’t need her. She moved to Salt Lake and went to work for Commercial Travelers Insurance which later became Security Life and that’s where she met Bob.
Rae had a great love for music. She learned to play the accordion when she was 5 years old. Later she learned to play the piano as well as the organ and she loved to sing and loved to ballroom dance. She taught piano lessons for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and served as President of the Washington Company in St. George Utah. She was grateful for her pioneer heritage.
Rae was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She played the piano and organ, led the Primary music, taught in Relief Society as well as in Mutual and served in several presidencies. She had the opportunity to serve as an organist in the Jordan River and St. George Temples. She and Bob served together in the St. George Family History Library and as service missionaries.
Bob and Rae were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 29, 1955. They both had interests and hobbies they loved and talents they shared with others including a ceramics business they worked on together for many years. They enjoyed spending time with their kids and family, sharing stories and making sure everyone got in a good laugh. Above all they loved each other and were dedicated to one another and their faith. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2020 (or 130 years between them according to Dad). They are survived by their 3 children; Kellie Barnhurst, Kris (Michelle), David (Amy), 17 grandchildren and spouses and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 1 grandson, Kory Von Searles & a great grandson, Micah Morris. Bob is survived by his brother Neil (Kathy) Moyes. Rae is survived by her brother Chad (Mary) Wilson and 2 sisters-in-law Connie Peacock Wilson & Karen Geilmann. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Randall Jenkins Wilson & Stuart Walter Wilson.
