Bob Clyde Buckley Sr., a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, departed this life on February 26, 2025 at the age of 79 and entered the next. Bob was born on December 4, 1945, in Murray, Utah to Betty Nielson and Clyde Robert Buckley. He was the oldest of seven children, and spent time playing in youth softball leagues. Bob attended Granger High School from 1961 to 1964, where he won second in state in wrestling and met the love of his life, Charlene Hocking. As Bob recounted, he knew immediately that Charlene was the woman he wanted to be with.
Charlene and Bob were married on January 8, 1965, marking the beginning of their 60-year marriage. They welcomed their first child into their home in 1966, followed by two more children in 1969 and 1976. After the birth of their first, Bob entered the Army Reserve, where he served honorably until 1972. Bob completed certificates through the US Army Aviation School and was a skilled pilot.
Bob worked for Mountain Fuel gas company for 13 years before starting his own business, Buckley Construction and Excavation. Bob’s work ethic was unmatched, and his business an object of admiration and pride. He ran his business with much success and care for 54 years and found joy in growing it and supporting his family. However, even in his success, Bob’s kindness and generosity were evident, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Throughout his life, Bob sought to continually increase his knowledge and his skill set. He passed his contractor examination, earned two associate degrees in business management and office administration. He completed a total of thirteen other certificates in marketing, accounting, data processing, and various electrical and mechanical systems.
Bob was often found sharing his knowledge and interests, including history and politics, around the dinner table with his family. He was known for his good humor and ability to engage with others and make them laugh. His family and friends recall many of his favorite jokes, references, and silly songs with fondness. Bob enjoyed flying his private airplanes and seeking out new building and renovation projects. He restored cars and built the homes his family lived in as well as a cabin in Bear Lake. On any given day, he could be found operating a tractor with a Barq’s root beer in hand or shopping for a set of tools, machines, tractors, or four-wheelers. His favorite pastimes included watching westerns and Fox News, visiting Bear Lake, or going to the theatre for an action movie. He loved his country dearly and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Bob is survived by his wife Charlene, his three children Bobbie (Lee) Christiansen, Tina (Ben) Hepting, and Bob (Rebeckah) Buckley Jr., his siblings Valinda Childs, Gale Buckley, Debbie Buckley, and Barbara Manning, his grandchildren Bradlee, Mesha, Madison, Jesse, Jaxson, Taylor, Lauren, and Aaron, his great grandchildren Benjamin, Ashlynn, Rayden, and two who will be arriving in June, and his two dogs, Max and Lulu. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Shelly and Wayne Buckley, and his grandson Austin L. Christiansen.
His family will be receiving guests at a viewing at Lake Hills Memorial on 10055 S. State St., Sandy, UT on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 6-8 pm and Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 10-11am.
