Bill D. Riley

On the morning of May 11, 2019, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather peacefully left this world and is now free from his pain and struggles. Bill was born on January 4, 1942, in Alamosa, Colorado to Lemuel Francis and Roberta Riley.
Bill graduated from Granger High School in 1960 and later received his teaching degree from the University of Utah. He taught English and was a school counselor at Kennedy Junior High and Granger High School from 1969 until 1980. He touched many lives during this time. He retired from Hewlett Packard in 2000.
Bill married Ila Rae Harman. Together they had five children. They were later divorced. In 1977, he married his soul mate, Loreli Crump. They shared nearly 42 years together and had two children. Bill loved his family without measure.
Bill loved camping and fly fishing. While he taught school, he enjoyed being a back pack guide in the Uintas for the Boy Scouts. He was an avid University of Utah football and gymnastics fan.
In 1993, through the miracle of organ donation, Bill received a heart from Kris, a young man who was taken from his family far too soon. Bill was expected to live five years after the transplant, but he was nearing his 26th and only had problems the last few years. This was truly a miracle and we can never thank Kris and his family enough.
Bill is survived by his wife, Loreli; his mother, Roberta; children, Robyn (Gary) Wood, Billy (Laura) Riley, Patty Holm, David (Krista) Riley, Danielle Riley and Miranda (Kelsie) Riley. Sisters, Sandra (Bob) Batt and Debbie (Norm) Christensen. Twelve grand-kids, 15 (almost) great-grand kids and his puppies, Jackson and Daisy May. He was preceded in death by his father, Lem and his son Mark.
With gratitude, we thank the Intermountain Heart Transplant and Heart Failure Clinic for their expert care. We especially thank Quality Home Health & Hospice for their kind and compassionate care at the end of his life. Sally was our rock, his nurse Makel, was his “home angel”, Tricia was kind and funny, and Ruth listened, spoke softly, and touched his soul. They gave him great comfort and he loved them all. Miranda, Danielle and Kelsie also helped so much to care for Bill the last few months. It is so hard to let you go, my Love, but you will be in my heart forever.
A viewing will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, 84123. Services will be Friday, May 17, 2019, at 11:00 am with a viewing one hour prior with interment to follow, all at the same location. In honor of his love for the Utes, please wear red. GO UTES!
