Beverly was born in Holladay, Utah to Henry Samuel and Abigail Amanda Hintze Florence, the eighth of twelve children. Growing up she roamed the foothills of Mt. Olympus on horseback, washed bottles and delivered milk for the Florence Family Dairy, graduated from Granite High School in 1947, worked at Auerbach’s downtown, and spent time working at the family-owned Alpine Rose Lodge in Brighton.
Brighton is where she met her husband Richard Pollei. After a winter of skiing the snowy slopes and a summer of hiking the lakes, they were married in the Logan Temple on 3 August 1950.
Beverly was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for her daughters, wedding dresses for family and friends, and many quilts and comforters. Later, she started Beverly’s Draperies making curtains and drapes for several interior decorators around the Salt Lake Valley.
She also worked in the cafeteria at Olympus High School where she got to bake every day; something she loved. She put together lots of recipe booklets for Relief Society while serving as the homemaking leader. She will be remembered for cinnamon streusel and very good fruitcake at Christmastime, handmade chocolate candies, and her homemade raspberry ice cream made with her own raspberries.
Beverly always had beautiful flower gardens and a bountiful vegetable garden; sharing the produce with family and neighbors. But, birds were her passion. The backyard was a bird haven with a variety of seasonal feeders and even heated bird baths in the winter.
During her lifetime of service and activity in the LDS church, Beverly especially enjoyed her callings as Relief Society President, homemaking leader, stake camp director and funeral luncheon coordinator.
Beverly and Richard recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Their posterity includes four children; Becky (Richard) Hansen, Steve (Becky) Pollei, Kerry Pollei (deceased), and Peggy (Larry) Hanson; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren with four more on the way.
Beverly passed away peacefully at home where she was patiently and very tenderly cared for by her loving and devoted husband with the help of Quality Hospice.
