Beverly Jensen King

June 18, 1930 — September 9, 2016

Obituary for Beverly Jensen King, age 86. She was born in Salt Lake City on June 18, 1930 and passed away on September 9, 2016. She married Frank M. King Jr. (Morrie) on April 24, 1951. She was an avid skier, one of the few wives who was out in a blizzard with the patrol while other’s were sitting by the fire. She taught sewing to 4H girls for years. She worked at Valley Bank and Trust for decades. Kauai was her favorite vacation spot, especially for buying size four shoes. She was proudly a much better driver than her husband, thanks to lessons of her father.
Her grandson, Tyler, was her best friend in her later years. She taught him to ski at Deer Valley, they walked the beach in Santa Monica, and ate matching meals at Mel’s Diner on the Sunset Strip with Tyler telling her about the look and sound of each exotic car that passed by. She was very proud of her grandson’s archery success having won the National Championships eight times and making sure he practiced, rain or shine. They built snowmen, sometime entire families, in the backyard on snow days. She loved pushing snow around in the winter, and trimming her roses in the summer.
She had battled heart failure for years and yet enjoyed life to the fullest, in spite of losing her husband in 1986. She loved the house he built and the huge yard. She loved each of her dozens of sprinkler heads like children. While still a very competent driver during the last years of her life enjoyed her son “driving Miss Beverly.”
Over the decades she has fed and housed dozens of traveling athletes: skiers, climbers, tennis players, cyclists, and archers. She often gave them motherly advice, always encouraging them to be safe, to know and respect limits and to call their moms – often. She was always the favorite “mom” of all the kids, loving and respecting them regardless.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John C. Jensen and Eva O. Jensen, her husband Frank M. King, Jr. She is survived by her older brother Dale C. Jensen, her children, Terry J. King, Kathy King Mallek, and her husband Nicholas Mallek, and her grandson, Tyler J. King. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
A gathering will take place at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 S. at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside service at noon.
