Betty Yanni

April 30, 1923 — October 10, 2014

Our loving mother, grandmother and friend, Betty Yanni, passed away October 10, 2014 at her home. She was born April 30, 1923 in Ogden, Utah to James Alva and Esttella Clausse West. Betty married Ernest Yanni AKA “Uncle Ernie” on March 4, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a registered nurse who served her patients with dignity. No job was above or beneath her. She was filled with compassion, providing tender care to those in critical condition. Betty was the biggest fan and cheerleader for her kids and grandkids. She was extremely compassionate toward all. She never spoke an unkind word about another – she lived simply and generously. She never met a charity she didn’t like. She volunteered at the St. Vincent Soup Kitchen and was active in numerous Parish events, one of her favorites being the St. Martin Spring Fashion Show which she attended regularly with her daughters and granddaughters. Betty could always be counted on to lead the song “YMCA” at family weddings. Betty is survived by daughters, Kerry May, Roxanne (Mike) Vaculin, Raelynne (Mike) Jefferies; son, Ralph (Laurie) Yanni; daughter-in-law, Stephanie; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and best friend and sister, Pete Attison. Preceded in death by her husband; son, Joe, and 4 brothers.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 14th, 7:00 p.m. at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 4914 So. 2200 W. with a Rosary to follow at 8:30. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 15, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Redwood Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity in Betty’s name.
“Mom, Grandma, Nana, Aunt Betty, Betty…We love you!” “Don’t cry because it’s over…smile because it happened!”
