Betty Irene Crosby Whitehead, our sweet mother and “Grammy”, age 91, died peacefully at home in Bluffdale, Utah on December 15, 2014 from natural causes due to old age. She was born at home in Salt Lake City to Charles Hannibal and Ida Katarina Anderson Crosby. She graduated from East High School. She worked her entire adult life, mostly as a key punch operator doing data entry, until retiring in her late 60’s. She married H. Preston Whitehead in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 29, 1943. She and Preston were the parents of three children – Paul Crosby Whitehead, Richard Glenn Whitehead and Nancy Ellen Whitehead (Alan) Lord. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church her entire life.
Betty was an exceptionally sweet, loving grandmother who always supported her grandchildren and loved serving her family and friends. She enjoyed very good health until she had a stroke on July 31, 2012. For years, she loved going to the Bluffdale D.U.P. and Riverton Senior Center to socialize with her many friends, lead the singing, and to exercise. She especially loved music, and sang in her ward choir for 77 years. She always wore a smile, making people feel loved and welcome wherever she went. She will be greatly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Preston, three youngest siblings: Katherine, Bernice and Glenn and her two sons, Paul and Richard. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Alan) Lord, five grandchildren – Allison Lord (Alan G) Hansen, Annalee Lord (Mark J.) Dammann, Bradley James (Lesha B.), David Preston (Erin D.), and Nicholas Alan Lord, and four great-grandchildren – Benjamin, Parley, Ty and Elly Hansen, brother, Charles LeRoy Crosby and sister, Elaine Crosby Sights.
