Betty Thompson

Betty Jean Thompson was born on August 30, 1940 in Memphis, Tennessee to Eddie Jones and Rosie Lee Martin. She departed this life on July 2, 2014.
She accepted Christ in her life at an early age at the New Era Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
Betty married her husband of 55 years, Glen C. Thompson on January 6, 1957 to this union three children were born.
She and her husband, Glen moved to Chicago, Illinois seeking a better and brighter future. She was employed at the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk for several years and the Chicago Transit Authority as a ticket agent for rapid transit.
Betty and her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1969; needing a slower-paced lifestyle and a better place to raise their children. She was very active in school activities and served as a room mother. She was re-employed by the U.S. Postal Service and worked as a clerk and tour guide and served on the Postmaster’s Equal Employment Opportunity Committee. After leaving the Postal Service, Betty, worked for the U.S. Bureau of the Census for 14 years, as a Field Representative and later as a Field Supervisor, a job she really enjoyed, until she retired in 2007. She made many long lasting friendships, which she cherished until her death.
Betty loved fishing, traveling and going to Nevada casinos with her late husband, Glen. Her favorite place was Lake Tahoe, Nevada. She had a love of reading throughout her life and always carried something to read. She especially loved cooking large dinners for her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great pride and joy.
A memorial service will be held in Betty’s honor on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery, 10055 South State Street in Sandy, Utah.
