Betty Lou Chivers Blackwood

April 23, 1930 — February 6, 2017

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend Betty Lou Chivers Blackwood passed away Monday February 6,2017 .
Betty was born April 23 1930 to Lewis and Elizabeth Slaugh Chivers in Vernal, Utah.
At 16 years old she moved to Salt Lake and met a handsome sailor just returning from serving in World War II. After a whirlwind romance, she married Cecil Blackwood on October 4, 1946. They recently celebrated 70 years together.
After losing her own mother at a young age, nothing was as important to Betty as being a stay- at- home mother. She and Cecil had 4 children and she was always there for them. The family loved fishing and camping and later she and Cecil enjoyed many trips to Wendover.
After the kids were grown she became a volunteer for the Valley Mental Health crisis line and was gratified she was able to provide help to those in extreme need. She also enjoyed her work as hostess at Union Station Restaurant where she made many friends and longtime memories.
Betty had a beautiful singing voice and sang all her life in different chorus groups. Most recently she sang in the choir at Sandy Senior Center.
Until the very end her greatest joy and legacy was her loving family who will miss her always.
Survived by her husband Cecil, sister Jennis Yack, children Lance (Cynthia) Blackwood, Lynne (Paul ) Collins, and Karen Blackwood as well as 7 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters and her beloved daughter Susan.
An open house celebrating her life will be held at the home of her son Lance on Saturday February 11, 2017 from 11am to 3 pm, at 3263 West Atticus Circle (12800 South) Riverton.
