Betty Jean Legg, 98, born July 24, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert Leroy Butler and Irene Stanley Butler, passed away on November 3, 2023 of natural causes--with her family by her side after a long, well-lived life.
Betty was able to live in her own home for 65 years, and only spending the last 2 years in assisted living. Betty lost her father on March 5, 1955 and her mother on October 25, 1992. Betty met the love of her life, Jarrell (Jerry) Franklin Legg, while he was serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was invited to Thanksgiving dinner at the Butler residence and the rest is history. They were married on December 12, 1945. Betty and Jerry lived a good life and were wonderful parents raising two children.
Betty was employed at Mountain Bell where she began as a switchboard operator and retired after 30 years as a manager. Betty and Jerry spent many years volunteering for the Democratic party. They also enjoyed traveling and spent many years in retirement touring the United States and Europe.
Betty is survived by her daughter Lynda (Gaynard) Griffiths; son Kevin (Marsha) Legg; grandchildren Ra'al Willey, Jason Griffiths, and Travis (Kaili) Legg; one great-grandchild Jordan Kevin Willey. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Legg; granddaughter Lindsay Irene Griffiths; grandson Michael Benjamin Hill; sister Afton Irene Turner; and sister Velma LaRae Butler.
There will be a Viewing Service on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Memorial Redwood Mortuary located at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84124. Graveside Service and Interment will immediately follow the Visitation.
