Betty Jane DeZeeuw (Momma) passed away peacefully Wednesday November 20th, 2024. She was born November 3rd, 1952, in Mississippi to the late Ernest Thomas Gilliland and Margaret Tharp. Growing up Betty was 6 of 12 children. She loved dressing up and dancing, she was also a feisty child at times, her siblings would call her "poochie" when she would pucker her lips, her favorite shows to watch daily were Dark Shadows and American Bandstand, in her teens she left school at a young age and began to travel to other states with her sister Mary Ruth. She met her first Husband Stanley DeVaughn in Maryland while he served in the navy, they married in 1969 and had 4 beautiful children then later divorced. After establishing her life in Utah, she met the love of her life, Pieter DeZeeuw in 1982 and married in 1987. Betty eventually went back to school and graduated. She also attended college and completed multiple subjects including cosmetology. She opened her own salon BJ hair and nails and loved making everyone feel beautiful. Betty and Pieter enjoyed going to Wendover and Mesquite, she also enjoyed playing computer games and doing puzzles. She spent a lot of time with her loved ones and was a kind soul. Everyone knew her as "Momma" and she welcomed everyone into her life. She was the light of the room, Momma was warm and caring, she loved her family very much. Her kids, grandbabies, and great grandbabies were the joy in her life.
She is survived by her children Thomas DeVaughn (Sharon), Chad DeVaughn (Penny), Kelly Nielsen (Casey), Lisa Blauvelt, Stepchildren, Michael DeZeeuw, Rick DeZeeuw (Ellene), Nikki, Jackie (Craig), Sisters Teresia Gilliland (Sissy) and Betty June, Brothers William Edgar (Bubba), and Jimmy Ray Gilliland, Many Nieces, Nephews, all her Grandbabies, Great Grandbabies, and Great Great Grandbabies.
She is proceeded in death by her loving husband Pieter DeZeeuw, Parents Tommie Gilliland, Margaret Tharp, Siblings, Walter Brown, Alice Brown, James (Duke) Brown, Mary Ruth Gilliland, Cecelia (Tiny) Jensen, Ernest Gilliland, Jackie Dale (Jack), Son in law AJ Blauvelt, Great Grandsons Stanley James Smith and Daniel Moksnes-Hooser
Viewing services will be held Monday December 2nd, 2024, at Redwood Memorial Estates 6500 S Redwood Rd from 11am – 12:45pm. Funeral services from 1pm to 2pm followed by the graveside service from 2pm to 3 pm and luncheon from 3pm to 5pm
