Betty Arlene Newberry Colianna

Beloved Aunt Betty Colianna, of Pacific Beach, California, passed away on January 20, 2019 in a hospital in La Jolla, California as a result of a fall and injury at home.
Betty was born July 5, 1929 in Ogden, Utah to Harry Newberry and Winifred Eleanor “Nellie” Williams Newberry.  Betty was the youngest of their eight children, she grew up in Ogden and Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School in 1947. In the mid 1950’s she moved to Pacific Beach, California with her mother after her father had died.
Betty married Frank Colianna on April 20, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Pacific Beach. Frank passed away March 14, 1990.  Betty later entered a domestic partner relationship with David Novy on 19 June 2006.  David preceded her in death on October 29, 2018 in La Jolla.
Betty was a beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Many of whom she doted upon whenever she had the opportunity. Extended family was very important to her. She loved to walk the Boardwalk in Pacific Beach and the San Diego area. She also loved to travel, especially with Frank and then her sister Bea after Frank’s death. Europe, Mexico and many places in the US were among her destinations. When Frank was alive, bowling was an avid pursuit. Shopping was also high on her enjoyment list. During her life she was engaged in many different occupations at clerical at Hill AFB, Utah where she originally met Frank Colianna.  In California she worked at North Island Naval Air Base in Coronado, riding the ferry across the harbor each day, and then in San Diego with the Federal Government and HUD where she met David Novy. She was also engaged in Real Estate in the San Diego area during her later years.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank and partner David; Siblings Eva, Harry, Millie, Fran, Tom, Bea, and Carlton. Survived by many nieces and nephews on the Newberry side and Colianna family of her husband Frank from his previous marriage.
She was cremated per her wishes and her ashes will be interred with her husband Frank’s in Memorial Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 E Lakeview Dr, Bountiful, Utah on April 13th at 11 am with a graveside memorial.
