Bessie Waki, deeply loved by her family and friends, passed away on June 21, 2016.
Bessie was born Oct 20, 1928 in Helper, Utah to Katsusaku and Masa Amano. She married her husband Utao on March 12, 1954 and remained so until his death. They were married for 56 years. She worked tirelessly throughout her life. Originally in her mother’s fish market in Price, Utah, then as a trained beautician. She changed her path, taking work to help her husband raise their three sons. First as a store clerk, then as a receptionist for veterinary and medical doctors in the Salt Lake valley. She worked her way up, eventually retiring as an Executive Secretary at the University of Utah. After retiring she spent her time preparing meals for her husband and unmarried sons, satisfying her love of cooking. For over twenty years after her husband’s heart attack, she spent countless hours preparing healthy meals for him and attending to his health.
Bessie is survived by her sons Randy, Matthew, and Mark. Preceded in death by her husband Utao, sisters Mary, Helen, brothers John, Pete, Joe, and Yosh.
Viewing will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at the Memorial Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Funeral Services will be held immediately after at 11:00 am.Service Information
