Our dear mother, grandmother, and friend returned to the arms of her beloved husband, Don, December 27, 2015. Born March 19, 1928 in Layton, Utah to Christopher and Florence Higgs.
Bessie was married previously bringing 3 children into her family, but found and married her true love Don “Pete” Peterson in 1982 (later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple). She traveled extensively with Don and enjoyed seeing the world. Bessie retired from Salt Lake County Housing Authority as the purchasing manager. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked in the Jordan River Temple for several years. She was an amazing quilter and made the most beautiful quilts for family and friends. She had a wonderful talent of sewing and crocheting. Bessie was a card hound and cheated at every opportunity.
Bessie is survived by her children, Gayland (Maria) Moffat, and LaNell (Steve) Coon; step-children Donna (Dave) Nelson, Kris (Rae) Peterson, Dean (Tiffany) Peterson, and Kathy (Ken, deceased) Kastner; 17 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; siblings, Dale, Alice, Allen, Jerry, Jay, and Eugene. Preceded in death by her husband Don, daughter Shauna O’Neal, and siblings Joe, Junior, Arvel, Robert “Bob”, Jane, Bertha, and Annie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Mount Jordan 3rd Ward, 8950 South 400 East, Sandy, Utah with a viewing two hours prior.
