Bertha Curtis

June 16, 1934 — March 1, 2016

Bertha Josephine McKeel Curtis, 81, passed away March 1, 2016 in Cottonwood Heights, Utah surrounded by her family.
She was born June 16, 1934 in Springfield, Mo. to Leonard and Josephine McKeel. She married Neldon DeVon Curtis on June 5, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.
She is survived by children Kenda (Gary) Winn, Janet (Jerry) McWillis, Karen (Greg) Houskeeper, Sheryl (Randy) Broomhead, Larry (Shannon) Curtis; siblings Lorene Shaffer, Bill McKeel, June Schaefer, Don McKeel, Diane McKeel; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren. Grandma BJ took part in raising, building up, supporting those decedents, leaving indelible impressions on each.
Bertha spent her life caring for children including her own and scores of foster children and others in her work for the LDS church as a Primary and Relief Society President, among other duties, especially visiting teaching.
Her professional life was spent as house mother for children in a crisis nursery at the Family Support Center in Sugarhouse. She trained and supervised other temporary and surrogate parents, yet took a day-to-day hand in helping kids in tough situations feel love, safety and structure. Her love will be sorely missed; her influence resonates widely.
Heaven will have to keep fastidiously clean and organized to match her standards.
Preceded in death by her dear husband De, siblings Kathleen Berg, Irene Vanderhoof, Geraldine Berbert.
