Bernice Nelson

October 17, 1926 — August 1, 2019

Bernice Nelson was born October 17th, 1926 in Castle Gate, Utah
She passed away peacefully August 1st, 2019 in Layton, UT.
She married the love of her life, Wade Nelson on December 24th, 1946. They had 4 wonderful children together.
As World War ll was raging on, Bernice was beginning classes to become a nurse. With the ending of the war, she didn’t end up completing the program. Instead, she met her tall handsome sailor. They fell in love and were lucky enough to spend the next 70 years together. After raising their 4 children and entered retirement they joined a camping club and traveled all over the United States and Canada in their motorhome.
In her working years, Bernice worked for the Salt Lake City School District as an office secretary. She worked at Backman Elementary and then Clayton Middle School until retirement.
She was a creative person. She loved learning to paint with oil and created many paintings of barns and farm landscapes. She made many ceramics and enjoyed crocheting afgans and sewing quilts for her family.
Bernice and Wade were apart of the Mount Olympus Senior Center.
She loved her family, church and teaching her family about family history and genealogy.
She was one of the best grandmothers anyone could ask for. She would tuck us in, make us cookies and buy us our favorite toys. She would tell bed time stories and always make their home feel like your own.
As a family we pray for her and her love to be together in heaven. We hope she is having the best family reunion seeing her parents, twin brothers and her first born grandchild Tyler. We pray that she is seeing old friends and being her bubbly chatty self. Heaven gained a swell gal.
She is survived by her children Linda Shedd (Joe), Michael (Colleen), Philip and Janis Stallworth (Rick). 13 grand children, 15 great and 1 great great grand child.
She is proceeded in death by her loving husband Wade Nelson, her parents, brothers Jackie and Billy and grand child.
Special thanks to Fairfield Village, Inspiration Hospice, Sherry Law, Lindsey Leavitt, Amg Seniors Jenn Griswold. Thank you all for the love and care of our sweet mother and grandmother.
