Bernice Freeman Lewis entered this life on November 9, 1914 and passed away peacefully on November 9, 2015 on her 101st birthday!!
Thomas and Ida Eastman Freeman taught Bernice and her 9 siblings the value of hard work on the family farm in Herriman, Utah. Leaving school at age 15, in order to financially assist herself and her family during the Depression, Bernice eventually became employed by the LDS Church in their clothing factory, supervising the sewing of jeans and shirts and later helped supervise their mattress factory, retiring in 1979.
Bernice married Don Edgar in 1944 and later married Floyd Lewis in 1956. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple.
As an active member of the LDS Church for all of her life, Bernice served in many callings, as well as a mission in the Member Locator Program and as a Salt Lake Temple worker for 18 years.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, 6 brothers and 3 sisters and Margo Stratton, a daughter by marriage. She is survived by two sisters, Ted Garrick and Inez Morley and one brother-in-law, Bill Ridgeway, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and Monte Lewis a son by marriage and many grandchildren by marriage.
Everyone loved Bernice and she loved everyone! The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Brighton House in Riverton for their kindness and care.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11AM with a viewing from 9:45AM until 10:45AM at the LDS Chapel located at 12682 S. Starlight Hills Lane (6125 W) in Herriman, Utah.
