Bernhard {Bernie} Robert Atkinson, 59 of Sandy, Utah passed away peacefully May 23, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. Bernie was born October 6, 1954 in Murray, Utah to Elvin William Atkinson and Tena Bogenschutz. Bernie grew up with 3 Brothers and 3 sisters, He grew up playing with his family. The Family would ski during the winter and work like crazy during the summer. His father owned Bell Vu Nursery and taught him the value of work. He graduated from Hillcrest High in 1973. He met and married Cathy (later divorced) and had a son Bernhard Jr. (Butchie). He had a passion for going to Topaz mountain and looking for Topaz and Crystals. He would make and sell jewelry and found great joy in sharing that talent with others. He often gave some of the jewelry he made away to others and would tell people what the healing power of the gems or crystals would do.
He loved the Family Ranch in Heber and enjoyed the quarry and working with the red flagstone.
Bernie taught us many lessons during the last few years of his life as he stuggled with a disease called Leukodystrophy. The main lesson we all learned is: “ Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… it’s learning to Dance in the Rain.”
Bernie is survived by his 3 Sisters, Karen (Bill) Cook, Christine (Thayne) Rasmussen, Colleen (Robert) Hofheins.
Preceded in death by his parents, and 3 Brothers Felix (Skip), Barry and Elvin Jr. (Butch).
