Benjamin David Jansen, age 50, transitioned to his heavenly home on July 18, 2020 in Fairfield, UT. He was born on February 15, 1970 in Provo, UT. to Anthon Howard Jansen and Marilynn Rappleye. He married DeAnn Lee Bouck on June 4, 1993. Ben was
described with two simple but powerful adjectives kind and humble. He enjoyed any outdoor activity in his various responsibilities as a Scout Master or assistant to the Scout Master. He was also a mentor to many boys as an Eagle Scout himself. Ben particularly enjoyed hiking, camping, and later in life he enjoyed fishing. His most valued time was with his family and friends. He was an accomplished architect and draftsman and had an eye for building details that few noticed. His leisurely activities consisted of daily walks with his beloved dog Lola. Ben enjoyed exploring the beauty around him, often preferring a day trip to a local geological feature or hiking to “Y” mountain on his lunch break with co-workers. Few books that were owned by Benjamin were left unread multiple times; his parents’ professions as High School English teachers instilled a love of reading. He enjoyed Sci-Fi and Historical literature but wasn’t unfamiliar with older, more ancient writings. He would read encyclopedias from cover to cover. He had electronic reading devices but preferred to flip the pages and feel the books. He loved history and looking at his genealogy. He was intrigued with historical events that took place during his ancestor’ lives. Ben had a brilliant mind that made him an expert on a variety of subject matters. He learned languages with ease and was always expanding on his knowledge. Every year he would buy a large Atlas and peruse through it as he relaxed. As an artist he excelled at architectural landscapes and was very skilled in drawing portraits and the minute details of the hands. Commonly found with a sketchbook in his backpack, he would sketch many beautiful pencil drawn pictures for close friends.
Ben recently acquired some family heirlooms that he loved to share their stories. He had a love of music and played the piano occasionally but he really loved playing the guitar which he taught himself While serving a mission; he later took college level courses to master the guitar. He returned with honor from a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in Northern France and Brussels, Belgium. Ben remained fluent in French and later was an interpreter for the military. He had a very long 29-year career in the United States military and was crucial in the warrior transition unit, helping disabled veterans return from the physical and psychological pains of war and regaining their former lives. He is survived by his wife DeAnn Jansen, his children, Ethan (Mallory) Jansen and their daughter Miller. Emmery (Morrani)Cruz, his siblings Karen Tolman, Deborah Adamson, Julie Rhoades, Barbie Becker, Bill Jansen, and Lisa Thompson. He is preceded in death by his father Tony, his mother Marilynn, his sister Jennifer and his unborn grandchild the child of Emmery and Morrani Cruz.
Ben has a large extended family that he was in regular contact with. The funeral service will be held on July 27, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Pointe Meadows 1st Ward building off of Pointe Meadow Dr. and W 2100 N. in Lehi, UT. A maximum number of 99 people are allowed to come but the service will be broadcast via zoom. Masks and social distancing will be required to stop the spread of COVID. An outdoor interment will be at Camp Williams Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, UT following the funeral.
