Barbara Nelson

May 19, 1927 — September 2, 2016

Barbara Jean Holt Nelson, age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 2nd, 2016. Barbara was born in Newton MA, and attended the Hickock secretarial school in Boston, as well as SSLCC. Barbara was in the Civil Service working for Colonel and Lucille Johnson in the US occupation of Japan during the Korean War. Her efforts there were focused on the personnel office of the triple A brigade (anti-aircraft and artillery). She met Sergeant Conrad Nelson who had served an LDS mission in Oakland CA. Barbara and Conrad met at the Matami rail station and a LDS meeting and she was baptized at the Tokyo mission. She arrived in Salt Lake City and worked for Dr. Jay B. Nash. Some of Barbara’s favorite pastimes were listening to Keith Lockhart and Utah Symphony, Boston Pops, and genealogy. She enjoyed friends from church and her friends at St Joseph’s. Barbara is survived by, children: Lloyd (Shelly) Nelson, Sue Nelson-Devereaux, Andrew (Betsy) Nelson, Marjorie (Drew Laplante) Nelson-Perry, grandchildren: Brooke (Dave) Edwards, Dylan (Sarah) Nelson, Alex Nelson, Travis (Kirsten) Nelson, Alie Devereaux, Sam Nelson, Cole Devereaux, Ava Perry, great-grandchildren: Ellie Edwards, James Edwards.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2016 at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Lake Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
