Barbara Jean Harris Golding Newey

August 31, 1926 — September 1, 2018

Barbara Jean Harris Golding Newey passed away September 1, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by her loving family. Barbara Jean was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on August 31, 1926 to Lincoln Theodore and Zereta Pierce Harris. The family soon moved to El Paso, Texas and later to Salt Lake City, Utah where she attended South High School. She married Ramon R. Golding in Salt Lake City on November 22, 1946. Marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were later divorced. She married Oren Ray Newey in Elko, Nevada on October 6, 1968.
Barbara was loved by all for her vivacious, cheerful, outgoing personality. She brought her cheerful disposition as a hostess at the Della Fontana restaurant, and later as a receptionist at Christensen and Jensen Law Firm. After retiring from working, she couldn’t retire from living life to the fullest and continued to share her enthusiasm for life in the Pink Lady Auxiliary at the University of Utah hospital. Even later in life she continued to be active and fun as she participated in community theater, learning tai chi and especially continued her love of dancing into her 90’s! She was game for anything, whether snorkeling in Hawaii, riding an ATV or Alpine slide, or dancing with great-grandchildren! She was definitely the life of the party!
Barbara is survived by her sister, Daryl (Cal) Young; children, Darla (Mark) Peacock, Karol (Guy) Monroe, Kristie Golding, Brian (Lori) Golding and Jordan Golding; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she held dear.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray Newey, brothers Ted and Lou Harris, and grandsons Paul, Scott and Shaun Golding.
The family wishes to thank Niki, Wally & Anna at Taramonto Assisted Living and Stormie Rollins at Wings of Hope Hospice for their compassionate caregiving during the past few months.
A Celebration of her life will be held October 6, 2018 at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State St. Sandy, Utah. Visitation at 11 am, followed by a service at 12noon.
Internment at Lake Hills Cemetery.
