Barbara was born to Martell William Denny and Delta Shail Hofhines in Park City, Utah. As a child, Barbara was bright and outgoing. She made a name for herself performing on stage in Park City’s “Night Operator.” She continued her time in the limelight while living in California. At 19 years old, she was crowned as California’s Vintage Centennial Queen. She was a stunning woman whose beauty attracted many, but whose heart secured lifelong friends.
Barbara also had a ferocious appetite for learning. She studied languages, the arts, and above all she loved the study of medicine. She worked as a nurse’s aide, research assistant for various national health studies, secretarial work, was a talented seamstress who sewed clothes for her grandchildren and was even a beautician.
Those who knew Barbara knew she had the “gift of gab.” She made friends everywhere she went and always worked to uplift others. She wore her devotion to God on her sleeve, always had a rosary on hand and shared her love for the Savior daily.
In her later years, Barbara spent time lighting up the lives of those in her nursing home and crocheted hats for the residents. Her great-grandchildren say she gave “the best cuddly hugs.” She used her gifts for others even until the end.
This classy woman dazzled and her bright light will remain a beacon to us all.
Barbara is survived by her son, Michael Knudsen; daughter, Deborah Jean Moffitt; son-in-law, Bradley Powell; grandchildren, Zach Roberts, Andrea Sorensen, Ashleah Seely, Madison Powell and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ursel Hofhines and her best friend and sister, Julie Rae Bennett.
