Barbara Jane Brooks

October 13, 1943 — July 1, 2018

Barbara Jane Brooks returned to her heavenly home July 1, 2018. She will be most remembered for her ability to love unconditionally against a backdrop of lifelong challenges. Her friends and family were her cherished treasures. Barbara was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on October 13, 1943, to Croatian immigrant parents, and was a tomboy who played in the snow in winter clothing beautifully sewn by her mother. Her family moved to Salem, Oregon when she was 12 years old. She loved her parents, her brothers and sisters, and cousins. She played softball(catcher), loved learning, researched her ancestors, spoke French, sang her way through life, and never stopped playing the piano. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science from Brigham Young University. Barbara cherished her faith and membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was a wonderful example of prayer, repentance, forgiveness, and Christlike love. She was a skilled complimenter and an inspired gift giver. She was a gifted homemaker, made people laugh, and wrote poems for so many people she loved, including the caring staff of Orem Rehab and Nursing, where she spent the last few years of her life.
Barbara is preceded in death by her second husband, Sidney Lee Zaklin, and her parents, Steven and Theresa Brooks. She is survived by her siblings, Nadine Cook, Ellen Brooks, Michael Brooks, and David Brooks, first husband Reed Rasmussen, her children Lara (Kevin) Bone, Laird (Jennifer) Rasmussen, Lars (Debbie) Rasmussen, Landon (Shadley) Rasmussen, and Jessica (Ben) Bonnett, and 13 grandchildren with one on the way.
