Barbara was the seventh of eight children born to Norval James Gallacher and Emma Jean Kingdon. She graduated from South High School in 1951; then married former South High schoolmate Wayne H. Hadley on November 22, 1951 by eloping to Elko, Nevada. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, June 24, 1960. They had 3 children: Gail, Joy, and David.
Barbara was a homemaker, plus worked for Valley Bank, and Salt Lake County Treasurer’s office. She loved to keep their home(s) clean, loved to cook large wonderful meals for her everyone. She loved the color green, stained glass, craft painting, gazebos, sewing, and spending time with family. She and Wayne loved to drive his multitude of cars they owned over 62 years of marriage, sometimes owning 4 to 5 cars at a time. Barbara and Wayne owned a second home in Saint George, Utah for about 25 years, where they lived 12 years after retirement, and owned a home in Layton, Utah about 10 years. Wayne built 2 beautiful gazebos for mom (a large 20-foot gazebo in Salt Lake and one at their St. George home). They drove to approx. 35 states in the U.S., plus Mexico and Canada on vacations. Barbara learned stained glass and made many beautiful stained glass pieces. She also loved teasing she was “chasing wild men”, and asked others send the wild men her way.
Barbara was an active and faithful life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) and held many church callings. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) and did service for both organizations. Barbara and Wayne personally met LDS President Thomas S. Monson and his wife several times having lunch at the same favorite restaurant.
Barbara’s husband Wayne preceded her in death in 2014. She is survived by her 3 children; Gail (Brian) Murray, Joy Hadley, David (Lisa a/k/a Susie) Hadley, ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, her brother Lowell Gallacher, many nieces and nephews.
