Barbara Braithwaite

Our kind, generous, loving mother, Barbara, finished her earthly experience at age 79. She passed on May 9, 2018. Most knew her as Bobby, one of 13 children born to John Clifford Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Bennett Johnson, on May 24, 1938, in Salt Lake City, UT. Her early years consisted of briefly living in a train car. Then later resided in California with her sister. She recalled being poor but not feeling poor. As a teenager, while living in Chesterfield, Utah, she had a part-time job at a family owned fruit stand, where she met Larry Braithwaite, a young, handsome brick layer, whom she would later marry on Nov. 12, 1955. By the winter of 1973, they added 7 children to their home. This home started out as a small one-bedroom dwelling, but as the family grew, the house grew.
Even though mom never held a full-time job, she was dedicated to the success of Braithwaite Masonry; answering calls, doing payroll and feeding the crew.
Mom loved spending time with the “Dirty Dozen”, 12 childhood friends who would meet faithfully every Sep. for a week away together. Mom was well known for her cooking. Her children recall coming home from school to the aroma of home cooked bread and scones. Everybody always felt welcomed to Aunt Bobby’s and nobody left hungry.
Barbara is survived by her children; Mike (Teresa), Laurie Hemingway, Jon, Darren (Kelley), Jeff (LeAnn) and Jodi (Rick) Littleford. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband (Larry) and son (Randy).
We would like to thank Dr. Harper, Dr. Tien and Dr. Moffitt for providing medical care.
We gratefully acknowledge the tender care she received at Sunridge Assisted Living. Many thanks to the staff and CNAs. Most residents became her friends, especially Eva, Arda, Lynn and Sonny.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Viewings will be held Friday, May 18, 2018 from 5-8PM and Saturday from 1-1:45 PM. All services will be held at the LDS Chapel at 7038 S 4800 W. Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, located at 6500 S Redwood Rd. Funeral arrangements are provided by Memorial Redwood Mortuary.
