Avard Goodmansen

August 28, 1923 — April 7, 2014

Avard “Vard” Pratt Goodmansen, 90, passed away 7 Apr 2014 in South Jordan, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City to Augustinus Pratt and Eliza Ann Jordan Goodmansen on 28 Aug 1923. He was a Navy man in WWII, married Lois Crow on 16 Jan 1946, and shortly thereafter was called to serve in the LDS New England Mission. He has also served as a bishop, stake patriarch, gospel teacher, temple worker, and with his wife Lois, as missionaries in the Seattle Washington Mission.
Vard was patriotic, witty, and very loving as evidenced by annually wakening neighbors to the stereophonic sounds of the Star-Spangled Banner, by peppering every mundane conversation with “punny” comments, and rarely a day passed that he did not declare his love and devotion to Lois to everyone within earshot.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter Juli, sons Michael (Patricia), Grant (Gwen), Mark (Margene), daughter-in-law Ronna Goodmansen, his sister June Davidson, and 162 others who call him grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 13 siblings, and son Allen Pratt Goodmansen.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 12, at the Eastmont Stake Center, 1050 East Galena Drive, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at the Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
