Audrey Best

January 27, 1928 — April 28, 2019

Adriana (Audrey) Van Schelt Best
On Sunday, April 28th 2019, a beautiful spring day, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Adriana (Audrey) Van Schelt Best left us to reunite with her sweetheart, Pieter.
Audrey was born in Zwijndrecht, Netherlands on January 27th, 1928 to Jacob and Bastiaanjte Van Schelt. She married Pieter Best on October 3rd, 1946 in Dordrecht, Netherlands. Audrey and Pete emigrated to the United States with their young son, John, and daughter Sjanie in 1955, making their home in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their youngest daughter, Margaret, was born in the U.S. in 1959.
In Holland, Audrey lived through World War II, and sang in the Netherlands Radio Choir with her mother and younger sister. In later years, Audrey enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and at Holy Cross Hospital with her husband Pete. She also enjoyed lunches with the ladies from the Red Hat Society. Audrey had a love for animals, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Audrey was 91 years old at the time of her passing, and had maintained her independence after Pieter’s passing in 1995. She was very proud that she was able to manage everything on her own.
Audrey is survived by her son, John (Lori), daughter Sjanie, and son-in-law Louis Sturdy. Audrey has 13 grandchildren – Kimberly (Scott), Jennifer, Geoffrey (Anastasia), Sjanie Maye (Shane), Michael, Fred (Amy), Hans, Ken (Allison), Erin (Dave), Robert (Kristin), Mariah, Lacey, and Stevie; several great-grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Pieter, sisters Bella and Lieni, brother Pete, and daughter Margie.
We would like to thank her many friends at Plymouth View Senior housing, with a special thank you to her neighbor, Patricia. These wonderful people looked after Audrey and made her last years fun and enjoyable.
We would also like to thank the staff at Sandy Health and Rehab for their excellent and compassionate care, as well as specific thanks to Amelia and Lisa who were always available to answer questions and help us in many ways.
Per Audrey’s wishes, a funeral service will not be held. Friends and family may pay their respects at a viewing on Saturday, May 4th 2019 at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S Redwood Road, from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm, with a graveside service beginning at 3:00 pm.
