Ate Oenes And Johanna Heideveld Oenes

Our beloved parents, grandparents and great-grandparents passed away in 2018. Ate Oenes (93), passed away on February 20, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The youngest son of Pieter Oenes and Antje Bosklopper, he was born December 16, 1924 in Groningen, Netherlands. Johanna “Jopie” Heideveld Oenes (92), passed away on May 4, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 3rd child of Roelof Heideveld and Anna Buringa, she was born February 4, 1926 in Groningen, Netherlands. They married on January 17, 1948 in Groningen, Netherlands. Together they had three children: Antje, Pieter (deceased), and Johanna (deceased). They immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1960 with their two daughters.
He was in a forced labor camp in Vegesack, Bremen, Germany during most of WWII building U Boats. This became his introduction to working in the steel industry. He graduated from Trade Tech Institute in 1964 as a fabrication layout specialist. He was later employed by Industrial Steel Corp. and Elmco as foreman. Ate married Dorcas Johnson on January 8, 1972. She preceded him in death on November 15, 1990. He started his own business, Quality Steel, in 1974 with Herman Stuivenvolt. He became well known in the industry for his knowledge, precision, and execution in the steel industry. The company is still thriving to this date. He was naturalized on November 14, 2007.
Ate is preceded in death by his three brothers: Jacob (Roelie), Jan (Virginia), Harm (Gladys); one sister, Antje (Wim) Van Saagsvelt.
Johanna attended the Salt Lake City College of Beauty. She became a naturalized citizen on October 18, 1982. Johanna worked for 20 years as a food manager/cook preparing meals for children in the Salt Lake School District. Her hobbies and interests included knitting, crocheting, sewing, needlepoint, cooking and nutcrackers. She made beautiful handmade gifts for friends and family, too numerous to count.
Johanna is preceded in death by one brother, Roelof (Annie) Heideveld; two sisters: Dina (Theo) Snijder and Gina (Andries) Scheltes.
Ate and Johanna rejoined once again later in life and remarried on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1994 in Elko, Nevada. Together they loved to dance, travel and entertain at home. Christmas and holidays were special, and their home became a gathering place for many Dutch friends and family.
They are survived by their daughter, Antje (Harry) Calvino; grandchildren: Loren Kierstead, Tyler Calvino, Angie Marrelli, and David Calvino; great-grandchildren: , Drayce Kierstead , Mariah and Zakiyah Westerman; also survived by David and Sue Johnson, Mike and Linda Johnson, Rick and Lois Wille, 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren who saw them as grandparents.
