Aryana Alissa Kimball

February 16, 2001 — September 26, 2019

Aryana Alissa Kimball, “Nana,” age 18, unexpectedly passed away in her home on Thursday, September 26, 2019 due to complications of epilepsy. Nana was born to Christina Smith-Kimball and Thomas Kimball in Modesto, California, February 16, 2001.
In her earliest years, Nana had a condition that constricted her throat, delaying her speech but she was brilliant in communicating through her expressive eyes and early use of American Sign Language. Imagine her—a 3-year old. Locking her marble-blue eyes with yours and gesturing the tiniest fingers towards her mouth with determination. She knew the moment you understood, and those eyes would twinkle with satisfaction, a smile would sprint across her face, and she’d nod her head confirming to you and herself that you understood. As her vocal chords developed, she had a distinctively beautiful rasp to her voice, which faded into a sweet tone over the years.
Nana loved to spend time with her immediate and extended family. Whether watching Seattle Seahawks games, camping, hiking, collecting Pokemon Go, or simply hanging out at home, she was an observer with an ever so slight mischievous side.
She loved sweets, and costumes, and dressing up, and decorating for the holidays—especially Halloween, her favorite, because it offered a convergence of all these things.
She loved animals, especially her dog, Cookie; ferret, Munchie; guinea pig, Mister Squeakers; and bunny, Fluffy.
She was a strong, determined, girl from the start, with an unusual grace for handling pain. She owned her health challenges as part of who she was, with dignity and confidence. She was a bright girl who loved reading and wrote beautifully. She loved rainbows, ponies, and unicorns. Her soul was pure through and through. She loved babies and small children—especially her niece and nephew, and her young cousins, as their innocence reflected hers beautifully.
She was proud of her family’s Polynesian culture and enthusiastically embraced being part of it. Her parents lovingly called her “the whitest Tongan ever.”
Nana leaves behind her parents, Christina Smith-Kimball and Robert Bracewell; brothers, Dilian Smith and Eric Bracewell; sisters, Ariella and Deanna Bracewell; brother-in-law, James Travis; nephew, Liam Bracewell; niece, Aria Travis; grandparents, Karen Sullivan-Smith, Boyd Smith and Rosemary Ferreira, Tani Kimball, and Louisa Bracewell; and great-grandmother, Rosella Benji. Also surviving are her uncles and aunts: Boyd, Kammy, Paula, Kalen, Russel, Jenny, Lonnie, Jessica, Lisa, Brian, Eric, Lauasa, Frank, Sia, Charlene, Ofa, Suliana, and Tio; and many loving cousins.
She is welcomed in heaven by her loved ones who preceded her, including her father, Thomas Kimball; grandfathers Frank Bracewell and Daniel Kimball; grandmother, Julie McNeill; uncles, Robert, Joseph, and Timothy.
Services will be held for Nana on Thursday, October 3rd at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S 900 E, Murray, UT 84121. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Nana will be laid to rest in peace at Murray Cemetery, 5490 S Vine St, Murray, UT 84107. Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life Potluck immediately after her internment at Murray City Park, Pavilion #4 at 406 E Vine Street (4930 S).
