After a life full of love, adventure, sacrifice, and service, our beloved husband and father passed away peacefully Aug. 9, 2014 with his devoted wife by his side.
Art was born Nov. 8, 1932 to Asa Gilby and Marian Moore Smith in St. George, Utah. He followed his parents all over the country and graduated from high school in Casper, Wyoming. He is our “Wyoming Cowboy.” Art married his sweetheart, Doris Margene Noorda on April 11, 1952 in Salt Lake. They were later sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple Nov. 8, 1961.
Art served his country in the Korean War and was proud of his service. He enjoyed hunting, leatherwork, spending time at the cabin, and road trips with family. He was his sweetheart’s greatest supporter for dinner parties and socials. He retired from Western Electric/AT&T after 43 years of service. He loved his family and neighbors. Art could repair anything and shared his talents often.
Art and Doris served a mission to Atlanta, Georgia from 1993-94 and at Deseret Industries from 2000-01.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Margene, and his five children, Stephanie (Steve) Merryweather, Mary Dawn (Bruce) Gilbert, A. Gene (Nancy) Smith, Katrina (Steve) Boudman, and AnnMarie (Brian) Ahearn; 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; and sisters Dauna Crum and Coleen Dale.
There will be a viewing Friday, Aug. 15 from 6-8 pm at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 E. 7800 S.
