Arnold Erwin Schmidt

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great grandfather and friend, Arnold (Arnie) E. Schmidt, age 91, passed away on Monday July 04, 2016.
He was born September 04, 1924 in Oakland City Burt County, Nebraska to John C. Schmidt and Hilda Schroeder Schmidt. He met the love of his life Virginia (Ginnie) Marie Bates in California while having a drink and asking her to dance. They were married a few months later on December 22, 1945.
Arnie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on board the USS Alabama. He farmed in Nebraska for many years, moved to Murray, Utah where he worked at Utility Trailer. He started his own business, American Trailer Semi Service, along with his two business partners and finally selling his share of the business in 1977 to follow his dreams of living and working in Alaska. Arnie and Ginnie moved back to Utah in 1983 where he started up Schmidt Tank & Trailer. Eventually retiring in 1987, he and mom filled their time fishing, camping, rock hounding, and snowbirding.
Arnie is survived by his six children, daughters Dixie Lynn (Richard) Stewart, Patricia Ann (Robert) Key, Robynn Lee (David) Kenney, Lori Dee Johnson, sons Daniel Arnold (Tonya) Schmidt, and Michael Dean (Janice) Schmidt, sister Sylvia Perrin, brother-in law Art (Cleo) Anderson, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 53 + years, and younger sister Alice Svaboda.
A viewing will be held on Thursday evening, July 7th, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at Redwood Memorial Mortuary & Cemetery at 6500 So. Redwood Road Taylorsville, UT. Graveside service for Arnie will be held on Friday, July 8th, 2016 at 2 pm at the Redwood Memorial Interment: Redwood Memorial.
