In Loving memory of Arlene Hopes
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Arlene Hopes, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, who left us peacefully on December 10th. She was a beacon of love, laughter and creativity, leaving behind treasured memories that will last a lifetime.
Born on August 11, 1937 to Charles and Genevieve Sudbury in Salt Lake City, Utah. On June 24, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Dick Hopes, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned 60 years. Together, they built a loving home in West Valley, where they raised thier four children- Rick, Jan, Debbie and Linda- and created countless memories. their shared love for adventure took them far and wide, with some of thier happiest times spent as campground hosts in Strawberry.
Arlene and Dick's enduring love was an inspiration to everyone who knew them. Whether they were traveling, gardening or simply enjoying westerns together, they laughed often and joked around, complementing each other in every aspect. their love was a beautiful example that will always be remembered.
She was an incredible storyteller with an infectious laugh, and she had a natural gift for forming connections where ever she went--everyone loved her. She worked in a nursery, her garden was a beautiful testament to her green thumb and love of the outdoors.
Arlene was known for her talent in crafts, baking, sewing, crocheting and doll-making. She took pride in anything she made with her hands, and she created so many beautiful things. She made her grandchildren heartfelt treasures and gave them handmade gifts for their birthdays and Christmas, making each of them feel loved.
As a grandmother, Arlene was truly amazing, creating magical moments for her grandchildren. She filled their lives with immense love and laughter. Whether it was baking cookies together, sharing stories or working on puzzles, she made every experience fun and memorable. Her home was a sanctuary of love, always welcoming for sleepovers, holidays, and countless adventures in the garden, game room or at the craft table.
After Dick's passing, Arlene moved to Rexburg, Idaho, to be closer to her daughter, Jan and granddaughter Amanda. Living in Rexburg brought her happiness, and she felt it was the perfect place to spend her days. Her kindness and love will be remembered by all who knew her.
Arlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick; her parents Charles and Genevieve Sudbury; her siblings, Terry, Gayle and Karen; her great-grandchildren, Melees and Web. She is survived by her sister, Janette Sorensen; her four children Rick, Jan, Debbie and Linda; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren,1 great-great grandson.and countless friends and extended family.
Her legacy of love, kindness and Joy will forever live in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held on December 21 2024 at 10:00 am with a viewing prior starting at 9:00 am at Redwood Memorial mortuary 6500 South Redwood Road West Jordan, Utah 84123. Interment will follow service at Valley View Cemetery 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, UT 84120
