Gord was born on April 10, 1930, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Ruth Dedrickson Granger and Archille Granger. He married the love of his life, Jo Ann Hafen, on September 28, 1956. Together, they shared 67 years of marriage, in which they raised five incredible boys and were abundant with adventures and cherished memories.
Gord’s career began at Hill Air Force Base, where he worked as a forklift operator. His innate curiosity and determination led him to master the first-generation IBM system, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey as a business owner. In 1965, Gord founded Computer Associates and worked many years alongside his brother, Ted. This established one of Utah’s largest and first computer-based accounting and service bureau. His passion for his work and dedication to his clients were evident throughout his career, which he continued until the age of 91.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gord was a devoted family man who enjoyed numerous recreational pursuits. He had a deep love for boating, particularly at Lake Powell, where he formed the “Lake Pals” with close friends, sharing the joy of a houseboat. Gord was also an aficionado of classic cars, especially regarding Cadillacs, to which he was a true loyalist. He proudly owned many unique and classic models including a beloved 50s convertible.
In his later years, Gord’s business life intertwined with that of his sons, creating many memorable experiences together. His love for family extended to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom he shared his wisdom and joy.
Gord is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann; his brother, Theodore “Ted”; his sons, Kelly, Troy, Tyler, Kristian, Spencer, and Raphael; six grandchildren, Katelynn, Alex, Skyler, Breanna, Gabrielle, and Lis; and four great-grandchildren, Xander, Nova, Boyd, and Rooster. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marilyn Granger Marley.
Gord will be remembered for his sharp wit, gentle nature, jolly spirit, and humble intelligence. He was a man whose kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who met him. Whether through a warm smile, a quick joke, or endearing story, Gord’s kindness was his hallmark. Friends, family, and even acquaintances often remarked on his genuine warmth and considerate nature, a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
