Anona Merrill Piercy

November 1, 1928 — December 28, 2019

Anona Merril Piercy passed away December 28, 2019, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 91. She was born November 1, 1928 in Rockford, Idaho to Leland and Clarissa Merrill. She was the 3rd of eight children.
She was sealed for time and all eternity to Raymond Piercy Jr. in the Salt Lake temple on April 25, 1950. They had 5 children: LaRae, Gayle, Kenneth Alan, Daniel Merrill, and Raymond Wayne. They lived in Oakland and Concord, California where they served as workers in the Oakland temple until they were called on a mission to South Carolina in 1985. Following their mission, they moved to Salt Lake City to take care of her mother, at which time they worked in the Salt Lake Temple. Anona and Ray were very involved with Daughters of Utah Pioneers and they worked in the DUP Museum for many years. Their special assignment was building mannequins for the period clothing and they really enjoyed volunteering their time there. They also spent many of their retirement years traveling on church history and temple tours and visiting many places around the world.
Anona was an accomplished seamstress and dress maker and had a business making wedding dresses and custom designed dresses. She enjoyed making clothes for her grandchildren and great grandchildren (and their American Girl dolls). She made several blessing outfits and wedding dresses for her family. She also enjoyed teaching her family members to sew and many have memories of learning dressmaking from her.
Anona had 15 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren, whom she loved to visit but liked even more when she received visits from them. Anona and Ray would travel to see their family as often as they could and their family knew they were very loved. She enjoyed traveling to weddings and when Ray was too sick to drive, she rode with other family members to show her love and support to her grandchildren.
She loved playing card games and dominoes and other games with her children and grandchildren and the people at the Chateau Brickyard where she lived. She also enjoyed adult coloring and showcasing her artwork around her apartment and was eager to show everyone.
Anona is survived by her children Gayle (Kim) Gardiner, Dan (Heather) Piercy, and Wayne (Georgia) Piercy, grandchildren and their spouses, great-grandchildren, and 3 siblings. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray, children LaRae and Ken, her parents, and 4 siblings.
