Salt Lake City, Utah - Annie LaPlante, beloved wife, sister, and aunt passed away on December 6, 2024 after a courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma.
Annie was born on June 1, 1954 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Alfred and Julia (Cuzyk) LaPlante. Annie was educated in the Holyoke Public School System, graduating from High School in 1972 where she was a member of the marching band. She played the clarinet.
After graduating from High School with adventure in her heart and a love for skiing she made her way West to Salt Lake City. Annie also had a love for learning. She attended several colleges. She was naturally bright and kept sharp reading eclectic books and mastering difficult cross word puzzles. Work commitment included working with 'water studies' (on both ends of the spectrum: water supply and water waste.) She worked in Sugarhouse park where she enjoyed planting flowers and riding the BIG MOWER. She loved her DABS time in the wine store and warehouse.
As a very caring woman, Annie gave much of her time doing volunteer work and looking out for friends and family. She spent years volunteering for the Utah Arts Festival and the Utah Pride Festival.
Annie and Heidi together have spent over 50 years of good times including time with numerous friends traveling and festive get togethers.
Annie was a loyal University of Utah fan enjoying basketball and football. Annie and Heidi were avid participants and followers of golf. They traveled to Palm Springs yearly, to golf meeting great new friends. They loved traveling to Europe to witness the Solheim Cup in Scotland and to the Solheim Cup in Des Moines, Iowa and Colorado City, Colorado.
They have both sent more than one dog across the 'rainbow bridge', perhaps she will stop by and give them each a big hug.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Julia (Cuzyk) LaPlante, older brothers Michael and Alfred (Freddie). She is survived by her wife Heidi Nielsen, their special dog companion Ash, her sister Julie Ellen (David) Frost and her three loving nieces Rachel (Time) O'Brien, Kathryn (Nate) Costa and Jillian (Russ) Jerome and five great nephews: Marshall and Graham O'Brian, Charlie and Theo Costa and Mac Jerome.
She is also survived by sister-in-laws Lynne Carlquist and Kris (Bri) Kimball and brother-in-law Dick (Kathleen) Nielsen. Annie enjoyed warm loving relationship with Heidi's shared nieces and nephews: Sara, John (Sarah) Carlquist, Emily (Amy) Carlquist-Bundy, Kimballs; Jed (Kelly), Dan (Kathryn), Bryn, Ben, Adam (Jessie), Zack (Danielle) Nielsen.
There will be a 'Celebration of Life" in June 2025.
Annie will always be remembered by her infectious laugh. When leaving a room we will still hear her say Bye Bye! Bye Bye! Goodbye to you for now Annie. We love you!!
