Ann Roos Demers died of natural causes Monday, December 17, 2018 surrounded by her family. Ann was born in 1928 in Arnhem, Netherlands, the daughter of Johanna Van Wessel and Gradus Van Wessel. In 1954, she became the first of her family to emigrate to the United States, establishing a life in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was followed by her three sisters, mother and aunt.
In Salt Lake City, Ann worked for many years as a housekeeper and as an aide at a small nursing home in the Avenues, which she eventually bought. In 1966, Ann purchased land in Murray and built Ann’s Rest Home, specializing in the care of Veterans with psychiatric needs. Her dedication to Veterans stretched back to her experiences as a young woman during World War II and the liberation of the Netherlands by Allied Forces in 1945.
Ann also eventually established Ann’s Siesta Village in Springville, Utah. While living in Salt Lake City, Ann met Herb Roos, an immigrant from Germany. The two married in 1965 and had two children, Eric “Herby” and Mary Ann.
The center of Ann’s life was always her family and she was blessed with six grandchildren, whom she adored. After the death of her first husband, Ann married Leonard Demers who she shared a loving relationship with for 20 years, until his death in 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, grandchildren, Corbin, Tyler, Briel, Katelynn, Taylor and Ryan and her sisters: Trudy and Dora. Along with her husbands, Ann is preceded in death by her son, Herby and sister, Mary “Riet.”
