Angel Luis Rivera Ortiz was born on April 8, 1936 to Petra Ortiz Negron & Escolastico Rivera Diaz in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. He passed away on May 3, 2015 due to heart failure. He was 16 when his family came to Utah. He married Mary T. Archuleta in April 1957 in Pueblo, CO. They returned to Utah to raise a family. They have 7 children; Angelo Jim, Margaret (Larry) Laforett, Steven (deceased, age 3), Maxine (Nicolas) Alvarado, Deborah (Miguel) Ramirez, Stephanie (Rudy) Gomez, Anthony (Marnie). He was later divorced in June 1980. He married Porfidia Torres in January 1994 in Salt Lake City. He has 5 stepchildren, Henry, Hiram (deceased), Migdalia, Benjamin & Maritza. Angel has 6 siblings, Elva “Martha”, Petra (America), Luz (Aurora), Enrique “Ricky”, Elizabeth & Elizabeth “Noni”. He has 37 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren and was a member of the Miracle Rock Church. He was known as Angelo/Chico to friends and family. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954. He worked for Denver Rio Grande Railroad for 31 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors, including camping with family. He was a jack of all trades who loved to tinker and fix things. A viewing will be held at Deseret Mortuary (36 E. 700 S.) on Friday, May 8 from 6pm-8pm. A funeral service will be held at Redwood Memorial Mortuary (6500 S. Redwood Rd.) on Saturday, May 9th at 2pm. The family would like to thank all the staff in the ICU at Salt Lake Regional Hospital and all the wonderful U of U Heart Failure Clinic staff, Dermatology Clinic, John Moran Eye Center, Emergency Medical Unit, the Cardiovascular Medical Unit and Palliative Care teams, as well as his doctors, Peter Sundwall and David Anderson.
