Alta “Marie” Earl Johnston

“TOGETHER AGAIN”
Alta “Marie” Earl Johnston returned peacefully to the loving arms of her father in heaven on November 24, 2016. Marie was born in Bountiful, Utah on January 21, 1918 to Claude and Lavinia Mann Earl. She married the love of her life, Gordon Phillip Johnston, on July 3, 1936, later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 18, 1977.
Marie loved to give and did so in countless ways. One example is in the multitude of talents she possessed: sewing, crocheting, quilting, canning, candy making and gardening to name a few. She often said “the more I give, the more I have.”
As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in numerous callings and spoke avidly of her love for her father in heaven.
Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren strive to live up to the incomparable legacy which she demonstrated in her nearly 99 years of life. We will miss you, Grandma, your stories of strife through the depression and how if you wanted something, you made it so.
Marie is survived by her children, Harry Gordon (Barbara Bouck, deceased) Johnston, Joan (Theron Duane, deceased) Chatwin, Shauna (John) De Waal, sister, Ardene (Paul) Bouck and sister-in-law Dauna Earl. She had 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
We, as her family, would like to express thanks to Home Care Assistance and Silverado Hospice for their tender loving care of our Mother and Grandmother.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 30, at Deseret Mortuary from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., 36 East 700 South, Salt Lake City. Graveside services will be the following morning, Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful.
