Alicia Reyna Meza

June 11, 1919 — March 18, 2016

Alicia Reyna Meza (Licha), age 96,  a resident Salt Lake City, Utah. Passed from this mortal life on March 18, 2016 surrounded by family  in  Benicia, California.  Born on June 11, 1919 in Glenmora, Louisiana to Juan and Rosa Reyna. She Married Jose A. Meza on October 7, 1940. She is survived by daughter in-law Josie Meza,  Joel Meza (Dora), Andy Meza (Alice), Alicia Diaz (Victor) and Jesse Meza. her Sister Minerva Reyna, numerous grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand-children. Preceded in death by her Parents Juan and Rosa Reyna, her Husband Jose, her four younger sisters Ofelia Aguilar , Esperanza Reyna, Lydia Robinson  and Aurora Rodriguez, , Son Jody Meza , grand-son Jose Angel Meza, grand-daughter Monica Frome  and Great-grand-daughter Nikki Frome. Alicia worked as a nurse for 40+ years at Holy Cross and St. Marks Hospitals then later as a
Private-Care Nurse. She helped raise her  grand-children and great grand-children.  Alicia had a great love for her family and knew them each personally.  In her life she took great pride in each of their accomplishments. From August 3, 2006 to February 3, 2009 she proudly served  a church service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a faithful member of the church and throughout her life she served as a chorister, primary teacher, gospel doctrine teacher, Sunday school teacher and various other callings. Later in life she lived at  Golden Living center and continued her active, vibrant life by leading a morning exercise group at age 94. Alicia kept busy in her long life not only with the care of her family and others, but several hobbies which include sewing, cooking, singing and travel. Licha’s life was hallmarked by her great love of music which often brought her to tears. She cultivated that appreciation from an early age singing in harmony with her sisters. Alicia loved cooking and  will be fondly remembered as “The Tamale-Grandma” because she was, according her family and friends, “The World’s Best Tamale-Maker”.  She always had fresh tortillas and polvorones at the ready for any family that stopped by for a visit. Sewing was also an area in which she excelled, she loved making dresses and quilts. Alicia had a great capacity to love and give love, she always put others above herself. The love she extended to her family and all those who knew her will ever leave an impact on her family and all those who were fortunate to know her.  A Viewing will be held on Thursday March 24, 2016 6 pm to 8 pm at Member Estates 6500 South Redwood Rd. Funeral Services will be held Friday March 25, 2016 at Copperhill Stake Center  6710 W. 4145 S., West Valley City, Utah 84128 with viewing at 12pm followed by funeral services at 1 pm. Interment will be at Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. Taylorsville, Utah.
