Alice Slack Newbold, 89, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018. Alice was born on May 5, 1929 in Cedar City, Utah, a daughter of Vernon Franklin Slack Jr. and Verda Lowder Slack. She graduated from Cedar City High School. Alice married DeVere (Dee) Newbold on June 5, 1948. Alice was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she shared her talents for knitting, crocheting, and embroidery with the young women of the ward. She worked briefly for Kmart and then worked and retired from AT&T. Alice was a master seamstress and her Halloween costumes are legendary. She was a room mother for many years and also a Den Mother for her two sons. Alice was an avid reader and had an unequaled talent for analytical math. Above all else she loved to dance, and we are sure her and dad are jitterbugging in heaven. Surviving are her children; Cyndie (Joe) Gabardi, Kent (Jill) Newbold, Brent Newbold, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren with one to be born in November, and 9 great, great grandchildren. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings; Afton Slack, Drex Slack, Mavis Seegmiller. Heartfelt thanks to everyone at Fairfield Village of Layton and Encompass Home Health. Their compassion and concern is very much appreciated and helped to make the last chapter in mom’s life a comfortable and meaningful memory. Words cannot express the depth of our gratitude. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 18, 11:00 am at the Memorial Mountain View Cemetery 3115 East Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, Utah.Service Information
