Alene Gerber passed away peacefully October 4, 2023 from natural causes. She was 92. Alene was born to Arthur Jarvis Banks and Tora Almira Duke on June 3, 1931 in Palmyra, Utah. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in the country across from Salem Pond. She developed musical talent early on and sang in school competitions and performances including playing the lead in her high school opera.
Alene was a socially gifted person and loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a special ability to quickly turn new acquaintances into friends. When Alene was struggling in a high school salesmanship class, a very good-looking young man volunteered to help her. His name was Marvin. They were married July 18, 1949 in the Manti LDS Temple and recently celebrated 74 years of marriage
She loved Marvin and supported him with his work career. He was out of town much of the time leaving her to attend to all the family duties. This was no small feat with 4 teenage sons that found more than their share of mischief. She well used the phrase: “Wait until your dad gets home!” She was later rewarded with a sweet daughter Pam, who was cherished by her 4 big brothers.
Alene loved doing all things with her family. This included camping, hunting, and traveling. She out-fished just about anybody willing to try. She spent many lovely hours on her and Marvin’s pontoon boat. The boat was more like a floating patio always furnished with family and friends.
Marvin and Alene loved playing games like Aggravation, card games, and Dominoes. Her children and grandchildren have many fond memories of these times. She loved to have family and guests over for dinner and especially liked to serve dessert. You could always count on your serving of dessert being enough for 2 or more people.
Alene loved to sing and shared this talent at funerals, church meetings, and at other special times. Even with advanced dementia, she would enthusiastically sing out when she recognized a song and remembered all the right words.
Alene enjoyed gardening and took pride in her beautiful yard filled with lovely flowers, trees and plants. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and found much joy serving others in many ways throughout her life.
In retirement, Marv and Alene learned to play the organ. They recorded several cd’s with original organ renditions which they shared with family and friends. They performed organ music at retirement homes.
Alene is survived by her husband Marvin, children: Stevan E. Gerber (Melissa), Sherrie Gerber (daughter-in-law), Randy Gerber, Dennis Gerber (Heidi), Pamela Mattinson (Craig). She was preceded in death by her siblings: Lucille Banks, Myrle Nelson, Keith Banks, Elmer Banks, Don Banks, Bernell Banks; Son: Michael Gerber and Verna Gerber (daughter-in-law).
She has spent her life serving her family with great love and compassion.
