Our loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother Aldeana Davis Butler passed away peacefully at her home on June 3, 2022, after battling dementia for several years. Our lives have been greatly blessed knowing and being with this wonderful lady. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and loving personality.
Aldeana was born on April 1, 1938, to Edgar DeElder Davis and Mada Bowman in Overton, Nevada. She was the second child of seven; two sisters, Yvonne and Mary and four brothers Robert, Kenneth, Arlo and Ronald. She spent her younger years in Bunkerville, Nevada, before moving with her family to various other locations in Nevada and California before settling in Renton, Washington where her father gained employment with Boeing Aircraft Company as an instrument maker.
Deana’s education was mostly in Renton, Washington where she graduated from Renton High School. She worked briefly as a dental assistant before spreading her wings and flew as a flight attendant for United Airlines for a couple of years. She then attended BYU where she met and fell in love with her waiting husband Robert Bruce Butler. They were married on December 18, 1962, in Orem, Utah. She remained in Provo while her husband finished his schooling and then immediately went to pilot training for the U S Air Force in Mesa, Arizona in the summer of 1963.
During the following years she became the loving mother of two daughters, Kimberly and Katheryn and a son Kirk. After 6 years in the Air Force and Bob facing a second tour to Viet Nam, he decided to get a job flying with the airlines which took her family to Miami, Florida for the next 17 years. While in Miami Deana served as a seminary teacher and Ward and Stake Young Women President for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. During that time, she decided to continue her education and attended Miami-Dade Community College to get her associate degree before attending Florida International University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Business Education. For two years in a row, she was recognized for her outstanding merit and accomplishments on “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges”. After her graduation, she returned to Miami-Dade Community College to do her student teaching in Secretarial Sciences. She did this with three children at home and set a goal to graduate at the same time as her son’s graduation from high school.
In 1986 she moved with her family to Denver, Colorado where she received her certification as a Certified Professional Secretary and was employed at State Farm as an executive secretary for the district manager there. She served as a Ward Relief Society President during that time. Deana loved to sew and play the piano.
Following her retirement from State Farm, she and her husband moved to South Jordan, Utah in 1998 and have been there ever since. In 2002, after Bob retired, they were called to serve in the Jordan River Temple and have been privileged to serve there until the temple was closed in 2016-2018, for renovation. She and her husband served a two-and-a-half-year mission at the Riverton Family Search Library during that closure. They were blessed to travel and cruise extensively to visit and see much of the world.
Deana is survived by her husband Robert of 59 and a half loving and adventurous years, daughters Kimberly R. Butler (Vickie), Katheryn J. Davis (Richard) and son Kirk A. Butler (Paula), brothers Robert E. (Sandra), Kenneth C. and Edgar Arlo, 4 grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
