Alan Dale Larson

August 18, 1947 — October 10, 2021

Our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Alan, passed away on October 10, 2021, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 74.  Alan was born on August, 18, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Carl Thurman Larson and Helen Schofield Larson.  He married the love of his life Maureen Jones on January 6, 1973, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple.
Alan is preceded in death by his grandparents, his father and mother, and two sisters Lorane and Diane.  He is survived by his wife Maureen, his daughter Michelle (Dwayne) Kantaris, his son Chris (Alicia) Larson, his 5 grandchildren, and his sister Judy Smith.
Alan graduated from Granite High School.  He then served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Auckland, New Zealand mission.  In June 1970, Alan was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served until January 1972.  He fought in the jungles of Vietnam for a year as a member of the First Air Cavalry Division.  Even though he received the Bronze Star, he was most proud of his Combat Infantryman Badge and his Air Medal.
Alan spent most of his career as a Manufacturer’s Representative for architectural hardware, owning his own business.  Later he worked as an employee for Lowe’s and also as an independent contractor/ installer for Lowe’s.
His lifelong hobby was cars and he could often be found in the garage underneath one.  He loved working on cars, driving them, and racing them.  His latest project was building his own 1929 Ford Model A Coupe hot rod.   He liked all hot rods and muscle cars but his favorite was the Corvette.
He loved being with his family.  He was happiest when spending time with his kids and grandkids.  He loved to travel with the family and went on some incredible road trips.  One favorite destination was visiting Disneyland with the grandkids.  He was just like one of the kids!  Other destinations he enjoyed were traveling on Route 66 and attending Beach Boys concerts.
Alan was known for his fun-loving personality and his quick wit.  He was the ultimate music trivia buff.  He always had a terrible joke to tell you and loved to laugh along with you.  He was always there when anyone needed a helping hand and was known for having many lifelong friends.  He loved to spend time with Maureen and their friends having dinner, attending car shows, and having fun adventures.
