Adelaide “Addee” Nicky Wiley

May 1, 2021 — April 3, 2022

Adelaide “Addee” Nicky Wiley, age 11 months old, passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms on Sunday April 3, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Addee was born on May 1, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ashlee Pendleton-Wiley and Kendall Wiley.
Addee was born with a congenital heart defect called Truncus Arteriosus and 2 holes in her heart. At 6 days old, the incredible surgeons at Primary Children’s Hospital performed open heart surgery on her to fix what they could of her heart. Unfortunately the repair did not last long, so they did another procedure to try and help, but ultimately Addee needed another open heart surgery, planned for this summer. She was also born with a genetic disorder called 22q.11.2 deletion syndrome, also known as DiGeorge Syndrome. This caused many health and developmental problems for her, including a very low immune system and her short stature. She was our little munchkin, which got her the nickname “Addeekins”. She was not able to eat orally so she was fed through a feeding tube that was placed in her stomach. She was also born with several breathing problems that continued to get worse. In the end, her heart was not strong enough to overcome all the other struggles her poor little body had. She was a warrior and fought incredibly hard her entire life and we are so proud of how much she was able to overcome. She is a testament of strength that all people who knew her admired. We are incredibly grateful for the love and care that she received at Primary Children’s Hospital. She was loved by so many doctors and nurses there!
Our sweet Addee was truly an angel on earth. She loved each and every person she came in contact with. She brought joy to thousands of lives through her courageous journey. Her smile could brighten anyone’s day, even complete strangers. She was notorious for giggling at the simplest things and her laugh was very contagious. Addee loved listening to music and would oftentimes move her head side to side and do her own special dance. She couldn’t go to sleep without her musical fish tank. She enjoyed watching movies, especially ones with lots of music like Moana and Encanto. She loved playing with all kinds of toys, but also liked to grab and chew on anything she could get her hands on, including her feeding tube, oxygen tube, and even Daddy’s hat and sister’s long hair. Even when Addee was sick in the hospital, she still smiled, laughed, and played as much as she could. Addee’s favorite thing was her elephant binky holder named “Ellie”  She always had her binky with her and loved playing with it. Even the doctors and nurses knew to make sure she always had her Ellie.
Addee enjoyed spending time with family, especially her sister Lillee, who is an amazing big sister and loved helping her mother take care of Addee. Addee loved getting kisses and tickles from her Mom and playing peekaboo with Dad. She gave the best snuggles and was the perfect nap buddy. Addee was blessed to have her amazing aunt Amy take care of her during the day. Amy is an absolutely incredible person who loved and cared for Addee as if she were her own baby. Although Addee spent a lot of her life in the hospital, we were able to take her to some of our favorite places such as the family cabin, Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park in Utah, Moab, Utah and other places here in Utah. She also loved going to her grandparents’ houses and getting spoiled with love from them. We had many plans to take her camping and to lots of other places, but we know she’ll be with us in spirit every time we travel. She will forever be our guardian angel and we could not ask for a more perfect soul to watch over us.
We are so incredibly grateful for all the love and support we have received through this difficult journey. Addee taught us all about love, strength, courage, and perseverance. She opened our eyes and hearts to a world we knew nothing about. We met amazing people along the way and learned so much. We will cherish all the wonderful memories we had with our Addee. She will be missed more than words can describe. We love you so much sweet baby girl!
Addee is survived by her parents, her sisters: Lillee and Kaylee, her grandparents: DeWayne and Debbie Pendleton and Scott and Judy Wiley, her uncles and aunts: Shawn and Amy Pendleton, Reed and Becky Pendleton, David “Pugs” and Danielle Pugh, and her 10 cousins.
