Beloved father and grandfather Abel Mondragon passed away on July 2, 2024.
Abe was born on August 21, 1943 to Joe and Elvira Mondragon in Trinidad, Colorado. He left home at 18 and joined the U.S. military, where he would go on to spend his time in the Army, deployed in Korea before he returned to the States, moving to Utah and eventually became a father to Randy, Selina and Brenda. Abe enjoyed the fast-paced atmosphere that his career as hotel banquet manager at Hotel Utah provided. When he wasn't working, you could find him volunteering at the Salvation Army; bringing home his treasures from Salt Lake’s yard sales; at the lake fishing or later in life, winning big at the casino. Abe appreciated a good buffet and never turned down a great bargain. He loved the drive to Colorado to visit his siblings, nieces and nephews. He was a simple man who enjoyed the small things in life and didn’t ask for much.
Abe was preceded by his parents Joe and Elvira; his brother Andy and sisters Angie and Ruth Glenn. He is survived by his son, Randy (Lori), his daughters, Selina (Calvin) and Brenda (Patrick). His sister, Arlene Beltran and many grand and great-grandchildren.
We will miss his humor, his determined mind and his independent spirit.
