On the morning of 11/4/14, our loving father passed away peacefully in his home. Dad is survived by his daughters Rachelle (Ernie) Rivera, Hollie A. Rackham, Kristee L. Rackham, grandchildren Lindsey Evans (Aaron Blake), Eric Evans, Todd James Rackham(“Partner”), Shanelle D. (Tory) James, Tyler Darger, Braydee (Raychel) Johnson, Brittanee Rackham, Kaileeann Rackham, great-grandchildren Quynn Rackham, Chamberlain James, Jackson Johnson, Jonah Austin Johnson, Ashtyn Kennedy, and Riley Blake.
He was preceded in death by our mother and his soul mate Carolee LeMon Rackham, his parents Lowell James Rackham and Elaine M. Parkinson.
We are thankful for Tammy Skerl and the loving companionship she shared with Dad.
Dad was more than just our hero, he was a hero to our country. He served a Special Forces mission in Germany as a para trooper (aka Track-‘em Rackham) and in Viet Nam as a green-beret. He received numerous medals including purple hearts and sharp shooter medals. Dad was not only an avid outdoorsman, his motto was “Leave it nicer than you found it and leave nothing behind.” He was a member of USAS. His main focus was Indian ruin sites. His heaven on earth was Canyonlands. He was a member of the Masons and achieved one of the highest levels while active. Dad was extremely intelligent and was one of the youngest members inducted into MENSA. He was a very meticulous computer programmer on large mainframes. Of his many accomplishments in life, his family was the most important to him. He always made sure to let us know how very proud he was of us all. He looked forward to any chance he had to spend time with his family. Every time we’d see him and ask how he was, his response was always “Better now.” Daddy, we hope you are with Mom and are truly “Better now.”
